Oakdale City Council Advances Key Community Initiatives

The Oakdale City Council has been actively advancing several initiatives aimed at enhancing the community’s infrastructure, public safety, and overall quality of life.

Infrastructure Improvements

In January 2026, the Council approved a significant street reconstruction project valued at $6.6 million. This project focuses on replacing aging infrastructure and improving safety for both pedestrians and motorists. The decision followed public hearings and discussions about project financing and assessments for affected property owners.

Public Safety Enhancements

Recognizing the need for modernized facilities, the Council has initiated plans for the expansion of the Police Department and the renovation of City Hall. The existing Police Department space, approximately 15,000 square feet, and City Hall, about 9,000 square feet, will undergo significant upgrades to meet current operational needs and ensure the safety of staff and the community. Construction is scheduled to begin in June 2026 and conclude by January 2028.

Community Development

In February 2026, the Council unanimously signed the Civic Pledge for a Stronger Minnesota, demonstrating a commitment to fostering civility in political and civic life. Additionally, final plans and budgets for Helmo Station Park were approved, a development set to include various community amenities.

Environmental Initiatives

Oakdale continues to address environmental concerns, particularly regarding water quality. The city has collaborated with 3M to remove perfluorochemicals from the water supply, implementing a treatment plant using granular-activated carbon to ensure safe drinking water for residents.

These initiatives reflect Oakdale’s dedication to continuous improvement and the well-being of its residents.
